Long-Tailed Tits collected in a bush beside the Vista before crossing the gap in a flock.

Someone gave a Carrion Crow a crisp.

After this salty snack it needed a drink from a puddle.

A Jay in the Flower Walk was expecting a peanut -- not salted of course, and they much prefer raw ones.

I wonder whether some overlooked peanuts even germinate. I've never seen any sign of this. Perhaps it's too cold here.

A Jackdaw took off from a broken branch to collect its daily treat.

A Magpie posed in yellow leaves.

Another drank from the pool in the Dell, which is now nearly dried up as the pump that works the waterfall has been broken for several days.

Below the waterfall, a Moorhen looked sad because there was no water flowing in its favourite place.

A Robin looked out of the shadows under the bridge abutment.

A Great Crested Grebe was fishing in the deeper gloom under a bridge arch.

A Cormorant fished in the old water filter under the parapet of the Italian Garden. Fish hide behind its submerged wall thinking they're safe, but the Cormorant is good at diving in confined spaces and can get them. (Oddly grebes, which are more agile than Cormorants, never go here.)

Two Cormorants at the island were too close together, so there was a dispute.

Black-Headed Gulls perched on plastic buoys at the Lido as they drifted in the wind.

A young Herring Gull washed in the Long Water. They always wash within a few feet of the same spot, and Lesser Black-Backs wash in the same area.

A pair of Gadwalls cruised side by side.

The Black Swan is now back on the Serpentine. It flapped its peculiar white wings.

Some Field Blewit mushrooms have come up under a lime tree in the lawn between the Dell and the Rose Garden.

  1. The Black Swan is acting rather restless, doesn't it? Almost as if it couldn't find a comfortable place.

Of course, the inevitable Coot had to go and peck at the perfectly contented Gulls enjoying their ride.

    1. Yes, I think the Black Swan wants to move on but doesn't know where to go. While Hugh was Wildlife Officer I suggested to him that it could be kidnapped and taken to St James's Park to be with the other Black Swans. He thought it would just come back here. I'm not so sure of that.
