A new film by Johanna van de Woestijne, this time about the notorious pigeon-killing Lesser Black-Backed Gull. She has compiled my video footage and stills taken by both of us over the years, and edited them into a proper nine-minute film.
Is it very graphic? I'm torn - I want to watch it because anything that comes from Ralph and Joanna goes immediately on the drop-everything-and-watch-now list, but then I am so chicken little-like that I get upset when I watch Pigeon Killer in action.
Tinuviel, if you don't want to see the more gruesome bits, just watch from the beginning to 3:53 minutes and you can see one pigeon get away. After that the pigeons don't escape and it is a bit gruesome, but nothing unnatural, in that the pigeon eats his meals and other scavangers also clean up the scraps, but definitely are not scenes everyone might want to see fully.
Hi Joanna, Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. I saw it entirely. A gull has to do what a gull has to do, as Ralph says. It is such a superb piece of film-making it would be a shame to miss anything out of squeamishness, and Ralph's soothing voice makes it all better. Congratulations to both!
thank you both: great film, if gruesome

ReplyDeleteit's not , somehow. Well compiled. Have a look, just look away at certain bits.
DeleteWell, there are some pretty gory scenes. But the gull is just doing what a gull does, and one has to accept it.
