In the rowan trees

When the fruit in the rowan trees on Buck Hill is ripe, Mistle Thrushes fly in from other parts of the park to enjoy it. There is a local family of Blackbirds under a hedge, and a female and a young one were also visiting the tree.

A Jackdaw ...

... and a Jay were waiting for peanuts in an oak by the Henry Moore sculpture.

The fox was dozing on the grass underneath.

Feral Pigeons in the Rose Garden spoiled the Huntress's aim.

Pigeon Eater was finishing his lunch ...

... with one of the young Lesser Black-Backs a short way offshore looking for a chance ...

... and the other watching from the restaurant roof.

One of the young Grey Herons was flapping furiously on a branch above the nest. It's useful exercise for proper flying after the short hops they are managing now.

An adult descended with air brakes full on for a perfect touchdown on the old water filter under the Italian Garden.

A Great Crested Grebe was mooching about by the collapsed willow at the bridge. The branch on the left where the Gadwall is standing is one where they have built nests before ...

... but a view from the bridge shows nothing there.

The Black Swan was on the Serpentine preening his ruffles.

This Mandarin drake in eclipse at the Vista is probably the father of the ducklings.

The smallest one was wandering over the gravel strip on the Round Pond.

There's always something different going on in the Buck Hill shelter on a Sunday. Today it was a blast from the past.

  1. I'm really bad at this, but they're dancing the lindy, right?
Extremely glad to see the Little Mandarin is almost out of danger. He only needs his mum to lead him to the lake.

    1. I'm even worse at it than you. No idea.

The little Mandarin is at least having fun bullying the other birds. I saw him repel a Coot yesterday morning.
