Young Magpie having a hard time

Both the adult Little Owls could be seen in the lime tree near the Serpentine Gallery. Ladies first.

A Wood Pigeon rapidly ate the fruit of a dogwood tree in the leaf yard.

A young Magpie did its best to open a peanut but hadn't yet got the hang of pecking a hole in the shell. I gave it a couple of shelled peanuts to console it.

A Great Tit stared out of a holly tree with berries still unripe.

Ahmet Amerikali saw both the young Reed Warblers still in the reeds under the dead willow by the Italian Garden.

A young Herring Gull near the Dell restaurant finished the pigeon killer's leftovers.

The Grey Heron at the Lido restaurant waited on an umbrella for a chance to grab something.

A heron in the Dell fished at the bottom of the waterfall.

A Great Crested Grebe on the Serpentine fed one of the two chicks.

The three at the bridge ...

... and the four farther up the Long Water could be seen from across the lake.

The Black Swan and his girlfriend ate reeds at the east end of the Serpentine.

Ahmet got a dramatic shot of him flapping.

This blonde Egyptian Goose has been around for almost as long as Blondie, who was hatched in 2011. She has distinctive barring on her flight feathers.

Three Small White butterflies were chasing each other around a clump of red valerian in the Rose Garden. One paused for long enough for a picture.

A Batman Hoverfly fed on a helianthus flower at Peter Pan.

  1. A day without owls is a wasted day, so today was good.

    1. This run of good luck isn't going to last for ever. But an owl a day keeps the psychiatrist away.
