Have changed the text.Ralph Hancockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11686354797977020917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8278510471239667560.post-10773513077219810882019-08-13T05:06:10.000+01:002019-08-13T05:06:10.000+01:00Ralph, I think both Black-headed Gulls belong to t...Ralph, I think both Black-headed Gulls belong to this year. The species takes one year to reach adult plumage. The front bird is in juvenile plumage whereas the slightly older bird behind has already moulted into 1st-winter plumage. Gets much more complex with the big gulls that take 3-4 years to attain adult plumage.Conehead54https://www.blogger.com/profile/18423862602236191493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8278510471239667560.post-85043643206823485372019-08-13T01:15:19.166+01:002019-08-13T01:15:19.166+01:00I think the grebe chick is simply annoyed that its...I think the grebe chick is simply annoyed that its mother isn't immediately diving to get it a fish. But it is still being fed by whichever parent is off the nest.Ralph Hancockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11686354797977020917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8278510471239667560.post-5887088964090601582019-08-12T23:01:31.258+01:002019-08-12T23:01:31.258+01:00Looking at the bedraggled pigeon, I remember farme...Looking at the bedraggled pigeon, I remember farmers used to forecast the weather looking at what the birds were doing. If they took baths in the water it was going to rain, if they took dust bath it wouldn't. Many years later I found out that Greek augurs took a similar view of things!

Is the Grebe chick looking at its mother with worry? No doubt I am anthropomorphizing it, and I am awful at telling facial expressions, but it looks to me as if it does.TinĂºvielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04794275230697959519noreply@blogger.com
