It was a very wet day, and the Italian Garden displayed water in every form.

A Moorhen balanced on the net surrounding a clump of water plants.

A Grey Heron shook itself to get the water off its wings.

The young heron at the Dell was sheltering under the projecting benches of the restaurant terrace.

The Feral Pigeons that would normally have been foraging around the Serpentine were sheltering under the cornice of the bridge.

This left the pigeon-eating Lesser Black-Backed Gull and his mate without their lunch.

On days like this there are no dogs in the park, not because dogs mind getting wet but because their owners do. The geese take advantage of this blessed relief to come ashore and graze at the Vista ...

... and the north side of the Serpentine.

The four cygnets on the Serpentine were cruising round without their mother.

The Black Swan saw them and came over. He doesn't interact with them, he just likes being next to them.

Their mother seems to be getting used to his presence. But the father took a poor view of it, and chased him away.

One of the younger cygnets from another brood was preening.

Some Gadwalls arrived on the Serpentine, the first seen here for some time.

Blackbirds welcome rain, as it brings up worms. This young one was in the Flower Walk.

  1. What a rain curtain! I am amazed that there were people in the park in so much rain. The birds look mostly happy (except for the soggy Heron), but I imagine it must have been very uncomfortable for you.

    1. Thank you all for your comments. I was soggier than the heron when I got home. But this is England, and rain happens.
