The pigeon-eating Lesser Black-Backed Gull was hunting again. He grabbed this one by the tail, but it managed to escape at the expense of a few feathers.

Then he made a lunge at another, but missed it entirely.

He didn't make a successful kill while I was watching, and then he was scared off by a group of French students. (They scare me too.)

A Grey Heron was trying for fish in one of the baskets near the bridge. This picture was taken looking down from the bridge.

A Long-Tailed Tit was having better luck near the Henry Moore sculpture, and had got a useful load of insects and caterpillars to feed its young, which were waiting on nearby twigs.

A Great Tit is nesting in the base of a gas lamp post on the terrace of the Dell restaurant. The hole is just large enough for it to get through.

This place was also used last year, when I published a picture on 25 June.

A Coot nesting under the willow tree near the bridge had found the perfect ornament, a shiny silver plastic bag.

A pair of Greylag Geese near the Serpentine island have six goslings. The area is now much disturbed by the building work for yet another triathlon.

The Canada Geese have so far managed only one gosling, but it is being well looked after by its parents.

The male Little Owl was out on a branch of his nest tree.

    1. I use a Sigma 150-500mm zoom lens with a Pentax K-3. There are two plane trees on the pavement just west of the small boathouses. The hole I photographed is in the one nearer the boathouses, facing west, about 9ft above the ground. But it now has a fence in front of it because of the wretched triathlon works.

    2. I get the impression that you are no fan of the triathlon Ralph! And I can see why.

  2. Thank you! How annoying with these sporting events in our parks, they don't seem to spare a thought for the wildlife! when they did the Olympic games ir completely ruined the parks and took a long while to restore everything. It most definitely upsets the wildlife!! No wonder we couldn't find the starlings nest tree yesterday!
